Knox Video Technologies was founded in 1975 and is widely recognized as a pioneer in the design and manufacture audio and video routing and distribution products. The first Knox products were character generators for live broadcast titling. Gaining a reputation for value and ease of use, Knox character generators were quickly embraced by both the educational and industrial video markets.

Knox introduced a low-cost matrix routing switcher in the early 1990s to address the explosive demands of the professional video market for an alternative to unwieldy patch bays. In the decade since, the Knox line of routing switchers has grown from a single 8x8 model to an array of cost-effective and user-friendly audio and video routing and distribution systems that range in size from 4x4 to 256x256.
